Where to Stay in Verona | The Best Hotels, Apartments and Areas

Keep reading for the ultimate guide on where to stay in Verona, with our pick of the best hotels, guest houses, Airbnbs, apartments and hostels!

Updated December 2023

Whether you’ve visiting Verona for a long weekend or planning on doing a deep dive over a couple of weeks, where you stay can have a big impact on your experience of the city.

But with literally thousands of places to stay in the city of star-crossed lovers, finding the right hotel, guesthouse, apartment or airbnb for you, your budget and your travel style can feel a little overwhelming.

That’s where this guide comes in.

Broken down into the six most popular areas to stay in Verona, we have covered our pick of some of the best hotels, guesthouses and apartments for your trip.

This is where to stay in Verona.

The Historic Centre

Whilst there is much to explore across all corners of Verona, the vast majority of the city’s touristic attractions are located in the historic centre. For this reason, this area is ideal for first-time visitors or those only in town for a night or two and wishing to maximise their time.

This is also where you will find the most luxurious of Verona’s accommodation options, both for apartments, guest houses and beautiful hotels.

If you’re travelling on a bit of a budget, do be aware that prices tend to be higher here than elsewhere in the city, so for those looking to make their money go further, you may wish to consider other areas.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do in the Historic Centre | Piazza delle Erbe (the oldest piazza in Verona, and home to the Madonna Verona fountain), Torre di Lamberti (be sure to head up for great views of the city), the iconic Juliet’s Balcony and the vast Arena (the Roman amphitheatre - don’t miss the summer opera festival!).

Verona Historic Centre Hotels & Guest Houses

Please allow us to preface this section with an acknowledgement that given the propensity for most people to spend the vast majority of their time in the historical centre, there exists a huge portfolio of hotels, guesthouse and B&Bs in this area - both super luxury, and more mid-range. Therefore, for the purposes of relative brevity, this section is not exhaustive; we have selected a number of excellent recommendations based upon style, facilities, reviews, and price but you may well find somewhere you love that is not within this selection.

Hotel Accademia | Located next to the Arena, this 4* hotel is perennially popular. Indeed, it has thousands of excellent reviews. A traditional hotel in that it is rather large, classic in its design, with plush and luxurious furnishings, excellent facilities and fantastic service. Find out more here.

Hotel Milano & SPA***S | Three words: rooftop bar & spa. This sumptuous hotel appears far better than its three stars with well-styled rooms (some larger than others), a highly-regarded breakfast, wellness facilities, and attentive staff. And that rooftop? It looks right out over the Arena. Find out more here.

Hotel Gabbia D'Oro | Placing an Italian spin on Maximalism, this outstanding 5* hotel offers far more than simply a bed. We’re particularly fond of the sun room, but the suites look wonderful, and the breakfast excellent. It’s likely a tad more expensive than it should be but previous guests note their incredible experiences at the property. Find out more here.

Relais Balcone di Giulietta | This beautiful hotel is housed in the courtyard that overlooks the most famous balcony in the world: that of the love story of Romeo and Juliet. Offering 16 elegantly furnished rooms and suites, it offers a more contemporary experience than others in the same price bracket. If you want to splurge, be sure to take a look. Find out more here.

Due Torri, Verona's most prestigious five-star hotel (and one of ‘The Leading Hotels of the World’ according to The Telegraph) is another popular choice for luxury travellers.

If you’re looking for an adults-only hotel, there are two excellent options in the historic centre: Residenza Bonifacio and Boutique Hotel Scalzi.

B&B Opera Prima | This popular B&B housed in a 13th century building is well located for all historic centre attractions, and offers a variety of good-sized rooms (we’d advise giving the small double a miss - it really is quite tiny) with period features. Find out more here.

Truly Verona - Delle Erbe suites | You can get a really great superior suite here for less than £150 a night in high season. The rooms are large, have great features like wooden floorboards, beams, frescoes and period furniture. Located nearby Juliet’s balcony. Find out more here.

My Place in Verona | A great budget option, My Place offers up clean, modern, bright rooms very close to the Arena. It’s a small guesthouse, and reviews state the owner is super friendly. Find out more here.

B&B al 19 | This highly-rated guest house, housed in a 17th-century building, features bright, air-conditioned rooms and suites a 5-minute walk from Verona Arena. Excellent views from all rooms, and a great breakfast served daily. Find out more here.

Verona Historic Centre Apartments & Airbnbs

Design Studio | This studio may be a little on the small side for some visitors, but it’s sleek, modern, an ideal pied-a-terre, has great reviews and is excellently priced for its location (just 100 metres from the Arena) - even in the peak summer season. Find out more here.

Another great studio is this light, bright and modern option, located in Eruli Palace. With hundreds of reviews, it’s super popular so definitely one to book in advance!

Residenza al Monte | This uber-stylish apartment, with a gorgeous palette of whites, greys, blacks and gold is just so sumptuous. Located in the heart of the historic centre, it offers one large bedroom, and decent-sized kitchen and large living area. Find out more here.

Domus La Costa | The most expensive Airbnb we’ve selected in the old town, but this historic apartment’s location and large terrace overlooking Piazza delle Erbe (Verona’s most prestigious square) means that it may well be worth a splurge for some. Find out more here.

Located in the same square, this two-bedroom apartment is equally beautiful, with three balconies overlooking the piazza, but decorated in a much more modern aesthetic.

Or, if you’re looking for three bedrooms, this is another beautiful option.

Centrally Located Apartment* | Like the idea of being close to Piazza Delle Erbe but need something a little more budget friendly? Be sure to take a look at this super popular and huge one-bedroom apartment! Decorated in a traditional style, its ground floor location makes it ideal for those whose mobility may not be the best. *The apartment is currently unavailable, but it’s such a good deal we want to keep this visiting and we’ll let you know if it comes online again.

If the above isn’t available, don’t miss this one-bedroom apartment with not one, but two small balconies over the piazza.

Apartment La finestra sull'Arena | This apartment isn’t going to win any design awards, but it’s comfortable, has great reviews, a little balcony and - if you’re visiting Verona during high season - you’ll be hard-pressed to find an apartment at this rate, for this location. Find out more here.

Le Nuove Cadreghe | Alternatively, take a look at this super modern, minimalist split-level one badroom. Its located a little north of the outer limit of the historic centre, (but only a few minutes walk from Piazza delle Erbe), but has excellent reviews and really good value for money. Find out more here.

Other good value picks include Carla's Apartment, Suite della Scala, The Bright Nest, Juliet House Holiday Home, The Suite Home Verona, Le finestre su Verona, and Bilocale Pescheria.

Veronetta

Home to Verona’s large student population, Veronetta has a suitably young vibe to it whilst still being home to plenty of historic buildings.

There are an abundance of bars, restaurants, and cool coffee shops, as well as plenty of reasonably-priced accommodation. This is where we stayed on our last visit, and where we’ll head back to in a heartbeat when we return.

Connected to the historic centre by the famous Ponte Pietra bridge, it’s also rather well-located for hitting up the city’s popular attractions but escaping the crowds when you’re done.

It’s also the home of the only hostel in Verona: The Hostello

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do in Veronetta | Hit up the bars and eateries, take in the view from Castel San Pietro, explore the pretty renaissance Giusti Gardens.

Veronetta Hotels & Guesthouses

There are no large nor luxury hotels in Veronetta, but several small family-owned guesthouses would make a pleasant, more intimate base.

Veronetta House | This popular B&B is comprised of three good-sized ensuite rooms. The decor may be a bit bright for some, but if you are lucky enough to secure the room with the wonderful terrace you probably won’t mind! The reviews are plentiful and excellent and an excellent breakfast is served each morning. Find out more here.

Bright decor is obviously a theme in Veronetta, and it continues with the equally popular Giardino Giusti House & Court.

Juliet's Nest in Verona | This charming guest house, run by two local women, offers comfortable clean and traditionally decorated rooms (there’s definitely an air of the Baroque about the style!), but do note they’re a little on the small side. Despite this, the reviews are excellent. Find out more here.

Veronetta Apartments & Airbnbs

Saxa Apartment | This is the apartment we stayed in when we visited Verona, and we’d very happily recommend it to others. Styled with a shabby chic aesthetic, it’s of a great size, only a short distance from the historical centre, has an excellent kitchen and a host that is eager to please. Find out more here.

Red Bricks | Set within a historic building, this gorgeous one-bedroom apartment has been lovingly restored, offering a minimalistic and contemporary space, of cleans lines and a muted palette whilst retaining a number of period features. It’s just lovely. Find out more here.

Note that the above is actually one of three restored apartments in the same building: you can find the listings for the other two here and here.

Adige View Apartment | This modern two-bedroom apartment isn’t huge, but it’s brand new, has been decorated to a high standard throughout, has views of the Adige River and is just a stone’s throw to the historic centre. It also has excellent reviews. Find out more here.

Una Terrazza Fra Le Stelle | This large attic apartment mixes original features with a modern design, is full of light, has a great kitchen and a wonderful terrace with views out over the terracotta roofs. It’s at the pricier end for a one-bedroom but the reviews are excellent. Find out more here.

San Vitale Elegant Flat | A truly beautiful space, this large two-bedroom apartment is full of light, has wonderful high ceilings, wooden floors and tasteful antique furniture. Find out more here.

Multi-bedroom, large apartments short supply across Verona, so if you’re travelling with family or several friends and need three bedrooms, be sure to take a look at this modern split-level option, just across the Ponte Pietra Bridge.

Other decent options in the area include Cozy Nest, The White Apartment, and Elegant Apartment with Frescoes.

Veronetta Hostels

The Hostello | Located in the west of Veronetta, this excellent hostel is thoughtfully designed with a combo of vintage and modern elements, large dorms (of six and four beds), a great guest kitchen and friendly staff. Find out more here.

San Zeno

The neighbourhood of San Zeno is located to the south west of the historic centre in a leafy residential area. Its local vibe and quiet nature mean that it’s popular with families, and those that prefer a base away hustle and bustle of a large city.

It remains within easy walking distance to both the historic centre and the train station, and the location means that prices here tend to be on the lower side. Do note however that there are only a handful of hotels and guesthouses in this neighbourhood, meaning that you if chose to stay here, you’ll almost certainly end up in an apartment.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do in San Zeno | Visit the Basilica of San Zeno Maggiore, go treasure hunting at Verona Antiquaria (a vintage and antique market held on the first Sunday of the month).

San Zeno Hotels & Guesthouses

Il Relais dell'Abbazia | This period 4* property is simply delightful, and almost feels as though it should be in the middle of the countryside rather than a large city. Think plush soft furnishings and tastefully tired solid wood furniture, ceiling beams and heavy rugs atop wooden floorboards, plus a charming central garden where guests can take breakfast and coffee. Find out more here.

LV - lenotti rooms | If we’re entirely honest, we’re not huge fans of the decor in this guesthouse, but it’s clean, modern and comfortable, well-priced and the reviews are decent. Find out more here.

San Zeno Airbnbs & Apartments

Quirky River View Suite | This unique studio apartment unites 1950s Italian design elements, retro furnishings, and vibrant wallpaper to forge a vivid design-lover’s paradise. Situated in a historic building along the Adige River (with views of Castelvecchio), it is an ideal base from which to explore Verona. Find out more here.

Central Apartment | A lovely two-bedroom sleek and modern apartment, which has been recently renovated. Well located just fifty metres from Castelvecchio and just a few steps from the Arena and Piazza Brà. Find out more here.

Verona Dream House | This modern two-bedroom apartment is excellent value for money, has great reviews and even comes with a free parking space! Really great option, especially if you’re on an Italian road trip. Find out more here.

Small House Verona San Zeno | This small one-bedroom apartment is ideal for a couple or single traveller (may be best for short rather than long stays), has all the amenities you’d need, has excellent reviews and is comfortable and modern. Located right in front of the Cathedral. Find out more here.

Casa Archi | This two-bedroom apartment is split across two levels, and has a more traditional design, with high ceilings and classical furniture. Its real highlight however is the terrace with views out over the river. find out more here.

Borgo Trento

Located in the north west of city, across the Adige River, Borgo Trento is much more of a residential rather than a touristic area.

For this reason, there are fewer accommodations available in this area of the city - both airbnbs and guesthouses - but what is on offer is good value for money when compared with the historic centre (from which you’re a relatively short walk from anyway).

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do in Borgo Trento | Because of Borgo Trento’s chilled location, there aren’t really any attractions per se, so instead enjoy local living and be sure to head up to the Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes for views ver the city.

Borgo Trento Guesthouses

Al Quadrifoglio Bed & Breakfast | A quaint family-owned B&B with large, comfortable rooms all decorated in a tasteful manner (some with balconies), plus a guest lounge. Also provides an excellent breakfast. Find out more here.

Arsenale Suites | Located a stone’s throw from Castelvecchio Bridge in a historic building, this small guest house is highly-rated, with a helpful owner, and decent, well-priced rooms. Find out more here.

Borgo Trento Apartments & Airbnbs

Carla's Home | A large, light-filled three-bedroom apartment that has been tastefully decorated with antiques, and also offers a small balcony overlooking a private garden. Excellent reviews and ideal for a family. Find out more here.

SOLEiL VERONA | Minimalist and modern one-bedroom apartment. The interior is a bit ikea-centric and soulless, but it’s clean, comfortable, well-priced and has hundreds of excellent reviews. Find out more here.

Others to consider include: Casa Berenice, Verona Luxury Quadruple, Apartamento dei Mille and Flats4Rent Alessia SX.

Cittadella & Porta Nuova

Located just south of the historic centre, Cittadella is in easy walking distance to the historic centre but its location just beyond the old medieval city means that your money will go a little further!

Continue further south, and you will reach Porta Nuova where you’ll find the city’s train and bus station, making these areas ideally located for anyone planning lots of day trips out of the city or just here for a pit-stop visit (though we really would suggest staying longer than a single night).

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do in Cittadella | Romantics should pay their respects at Juliet’s tomb and everybody needs to stop by Castelvecchio - both to take in the architecture, and enjoy the museum.

Cittadella and Porta Nuova Guesthouses

There a large number of mid-range guest houses in this part of town, all charging very similar rates per night - usually in the region of £100-150.

For this reason, we’ve only selected handful as they’re honestly all pretty much of a muchness (and we couldn't really find any that we loved).

Verona Enjoy | The rooms whilst clean and modern are somewhat basic here, but it does benefit from a lovely guest terrace. Find out more here.

Casapiu Rooms | A pleasant, small, contemporary guesthouse (at least when it comes to colour palette and furnishings), the great thing about Casapiu Rooms is their rates - definitely one of the best priced we’ve come across! Find out more here.

Air Suite Verona | Technically in Citadella, but very close to the Arena (and priced to reflect this), Air Suite Verona offers large, modern rooms with all necessary amenities and excellent sized bathrooms. One downside is that you have to nip across the road to another building to eat breakfast. Find out more here.

Pepita Lodge | Located just a short distance from the train station, this contemporary hotel in a historic building has made a strong effort to modernise (although some design features miss the mark). If available, book the room with a private terrace - it has really excellent reviews. Find out more here.

B&B Cittadella | An excellent budget B&B, they offer cosy rooms near the Arena. The design doesn’t blow us away, but they’re comfortable and clean. Note that the rate is kept low by the fact that most rooms have a shared bathroom. There’s also a small communal kitchen. Find out more here.

Hotel Indigo Verona - Grand Hotel Des Arts | As might be guessed from the name, the hotel - just a five minute stroll from Piazza Bra and the famous Verona Arena - boasts an impressive range of classic and modern art, including sculptures and oil paintings and the elegant rooms are modern and tastefully decorated in neutral tones. Find out more here.

Hotel Firenze, Sole Hotel Verona, Casa Italia and Hotel San Luca also have great reviews.

Cittadella and Porta Nuova Apartments

Verona Wine Suite | This two-bedroom loft apartment - part of a family-owned 17th-century palace - has been recently renovated with all mod-cons whilst maintaining its historical character. Whilst technically in the Cittadella neighbourhood, it is very close to the Arena. Find out more here.

Apartment in Ancient Palace | This beautiful period property, located in 17th-century palace (a palace still owned by the same original Veronese family), has three bedrooms making it ideal for a family or group of friends travelling together. The design is homely, classical but stylish, there’s a large central garden and it’s just a few steps from Piazza Bra Clock and the Arena. Find out more here.

Appartamento Opera 15 | The apartment itself is a little on the small side, but the reason it makes this list is the charming private courtyard that sits alongside it! Really quite close to the historic centre and ideal for a couple or single traveller. Find out more here.

Exclusive Torcoletto | A simple but modern, light and bright 6th-floor apartment with large windows with fantastic views. Find out more here.

Another good value, similarly designed apartment is SOLEiL VERONA Castelvecchio 2.

Panorama Apartment | Super popular and highly-rated, this large modern and newly refurbished two-bed apartment is a fantastic option in San Zeno, but its real highlight is the large terrace with views out over the city and to the mountains beyond. Find out more here.
