What makes the small Balearic Island of Menorca quite so special is that it isn't like a number of other Spanish holiday destinations or islands

Due to the punishment policies of General Franco, Menorca was starved of funding over four decades; funding which contributed directly to the rushed development and commercialisation which scarred pockets of Mallorca, Ibiza, and the Costa Brava during the Spanish tourism boom of the 1960s and 70s.

Little Menorca - rural, understated, and blessed with a paradise coastline - was left out as the others saw too many unsightly concrete high rises erected, whole areas transformed into generic places for tourists to feel like home away from home, and a reputation developed as a destination for cheap 'stack-em-high' holidays and boozy all-inclusive resorts that wasn't always glowing.

(we appreciate that's a broad brush with which to paint the whole of Mallorca and Ibiza, but it is valid).

Franco's punishment, coupled with Menorca's designation as a UNESCO Biosphere in 1993, means that those massive multi-storied, multi-balconied hotels by beaches are a rarity; they exist, sure, but stick out a mile when you see them. Instead, accommodation on the island is more about whitewashed and green-shuttered villas of one or two storeys, rustic and renovated farmhouses, understated boutique hotels, modest resorts, and some stand-out luxury adults-only places too. Good value holiday apartments and complexes in defined tourist hubs are also very common - and a great option if location and price is more important than amenities or design.

Importantly though, there a number of idiosyncrasies when it comes to accommodation in Menorca that will make a significant difference to where you can stay, your experience of the island, and your budget.

You need to know about these before you book anything.

In this post, we've shared everything you need to know about where to stay in Menorca - from the lack of Airbnbs and the tourism tax to tired tourist towns to avoid and high season gouging - as well as provided a breakdown of the best areas to stay on the island based on what you're looking for.

In addition, you'll find our personal pick of the best accommodations in each location for your own travel style and budget, so finding the right base and place will be a pleasure rather than a chore.

What You Need To Know About Menorca hotels & Accommodation

Pick Your Base Carefully

The most important thing, especially if not renting a car, is to pick your base carefully.

Trust us, Menorca may seem small, but once you're there the inclination to go 40 minutes across the island two days in a row for a beach lessens (a good and bad thing). Where you stay will shape much of what you can do, see, and enjoy on the island, with the likelihood that most of your explorations will be within the surrounding areas unless you have a car or take public transport.

Some places on the island are certainly better for families and holidaymakers than others, whilst more independently-minded travellers, hikers or those renting a car will be more suited to others. If you're staying in southeast Menorca for example, then you're not really going to be focussing on lots of things to do in the northwest.

It's therefore vital to think about what's important to you on this holiday and how many day trips you wish to take. Do you want to be:

1. Right next to a white sand beach?

2. Close to culture, foodie restaurants?

3. Near transport connections for lots of day trips?

4. In the countryside? On the coast? In the interior? On a specific section of the Camí de Cavalls?

5. Somewhere that's family friendly with good facilities?

6. As far away from package-holiday resorts as possible?

7. In a wildcard amazing hotel or Airbnb anywhere?

8. Have a private or shared pool? In a complex or a private residence?

9. In close proximity to several of our favourite things to do in Menorca?

In our ‘where to stay’ breakdown in the next section, we've indicated the pros and cons of each destination, as well as the travel styles for which it's most suited.

The Problem With Airbnb in Menorca

Menorca has some of the strictest rules in Europe on tourist accommodation, with licence requirements on apartment rentals, limits on the number of days per year a property can be rented out, the number of properties an owner can list, and the overall ‘stock’ of rooms / rentals available. These regulations limit type of properties that can be rented for short term stays and the areas where licences to rent a property are being granted.

These are largely focussed on ensuring sustainable growth, avoiding overtourism, and maintaining a healthy balance with local communities - all good things. We’re prodigious users and recommenders of Airbnb, but fully recognise that allowing it to sprawl unchecked across destinations has a number of negative consequences.

These rules, in place since 2016, mean there are not as many Airbnbs-style properties as you may expect on the island in comparison to other European destinations. The rules of supply and demand also means the availability of those you can find is diminished, whilst prices are on average higher than on mainland Spain.

Based on our personal experience, it does unfortunately mean some independent travellers who don’t wish to stay in the defined tourist resort hubs may find themselves disappointed by the accommodation they can have in Menorca. What you’re dreaming of right now may not be available, or available within your budget. Little apartments by the sea? Not so much. Townhouses in Mahon or Ciutadella? Possible, but not terribly numerous and therefore subject to the rules of supply and demand. As owners are limited on the number of nights they can rent out for, it also means they lean more toward 7+ day guest stays rather than shorter periods, with many having a minimum-length booking requirement.

However, this doesn’t mean you can’t find and rent legal Airbnbs in Menorca - we stayed at this fantastic little villa outside Binibeca for a week as well as this lovely apartment in Son Bou - and there are still lots of fantastic listings on the platform.

It’s also really important to be aware that what you may see advertised on Airbnb or Booking.com may actually be an apartment or room / cottage within a hotel complex that you may not want to be in, but this is intentionally obscured by the lister; just double check before booking, especially if it seems to cheap to be true!

The Defined Tourist Hubs

From 2018, new developments and rental licences are only being permitted by the local government into around 50 defined areas on the coast - those which are already effectively 'tourist hubs'.

They are not being granted within the main towns and villages, or in rural areas.

This is quite a clear indication that, as a visitor, your options should really be focussed on basing yourself in these places (for ease rather than anything else); it's also the reason why you'll find such a distinctive cluster of availability of options in certain areas and nowt anywhere nearby.

The issue we have with it is that some of the 50 won't really appeal or chime with your travel style, and all are definitely not created equal.

Some are manufactured package-holiday hubs, some are very tired and look half-abandoned after the pandemic with boarded up Chinese restaurants and Irish bars, some will only be good if you don't plan on exploring anywhere else on the island, whilst many have limited restaurants or set themselves up purely for the holidaymaker rather than curious traveller.

If choosing purely on budget, every accommodation platform will see you gravitate toward these locations. If you've got a hire car in Menorca or a really good rate on an apartment, or are simply happy to be somewhere that's not home, then this may not be a big deal for you and a lovely beach may just be a a walk away.

However - and we know we may seem snobby stating this - our job as experienced travel bloggers is to share our honest opinion to help you travel better and have the best experience possible - and the truth is that some of these places in particular are ones to avoid.

These can be identified pretty damn quickly once you arrive in them - usually from the vibe and architecture, but more directly by the signs they've got indicating what's there, the presence of an Irish or English or Aussie 'pub', plus the general layout and facilities. This will be perfect for some people perhaps just looking for sun, fun, and social evenings, but it won't suit those of you looking for more local life and vibes.

Don't worry - not all of them are like that!

As independent travellers though, we must admit that this was the biggest frustration we had with our month in Menorca; as when you put all visitors toward the same places, it does start to feel more like a place for a 'holiday' destination rather than a place to travel in. This is why basing yourself in the cities of Ciutadella and Mahón isn't a bad idea for certain travel styles or couples who want to have interesting places to eat and drink in the evenings.

High Season Prices

Is accommodation expensive in Menorca? Yes, and it can be really expensive depending on when you travel.

We explain more about the tourism peak and off seasons in 23 Things To Know Before You Visit Menorca, but prices here are at their very highest for bookings between mid-July to mid-September. Travelling in late August to late September, the average cost for us outside of Mahón and Ciutadella was £120+ / night for anything decent (and some of them still weren’t really that great!).

The southeast is generally more expensive than the resort-town and package-holiday driven southwest, with a consistent price difference of 30% when we were looking; this is however for good reason given what's there and its atmosphere in comparison. The lesser-touristic north can be more expensive due to its exclusivity in certain pockets, but also has some very cheap parts which we recommend avoiding.

If budget is a concern, you will get much more for your money by visiting from before July or from mid-September onward - just shuffle the prices a bit on booking sites to see when the reductions kick in. Bargains can still be found, but it just requires a bit more digging, luck, or travelling in off-season (we've also listed a bunch below).

Understand The Menorcan Tourist Tax

The Balearic Government also introduced the Menorca tourism tax in 2016. This applies to all guests in accommodations, and is determined on a fixed price per person per night.

It is charged on a sliding scale, relative to the type of property you’re staying in i.e. you pay more at a 5-star hotel than a little guesthouse or Airbnb. The cost is €1 at the lowest end, €4 at the highest (at time of writing), whilst the price per night drops substantially in the low season (November-April) to €0.5 to €1 per night.

The amount charged also reduces by 50% from Day Nine of a long stay in a single property.

Children under 16 are not taxed or included.

For most of our accommodation bookings, this tax was included in the overall payment when reserving or absorbed by the company; they’re the ones actually responsible for paying the government, so may simply take the haircut to stay competitive. However, at ARTIEM Capri in Mahón (a place we highly recommend if you’re staying in the capital), it was charged separately prior to our check-out.

If unsure, simply double check if it’s in addition before finalising your booking, especially if you’re on a strict budget or planning on a longer stay in a single accommodation.

The Massive Large Villas

Final point before we get on to the best areas to stay and accommodation picks!

Alongside the lack of small apartment rentals in some tourist zones, some travellers without a limitless budget may find that a hotel by the sea may be a more affordable and attractive option rather than an apartment or villa.

This is due to the plethora of large holiday villas in the tourist zones. Sleeping anywhere from 6-12 people, the abundance of them is good news for a large family or group of friends looking for affordable to luxury options, but they'll be unsuitable, cavernous, and far too expensive for couples or small families who can't split the cost six ways.

Unfortunately, and certainly influenced by the Airbnb rules, there aren't too many small villas or homes which plug the gap - though we did get this one in Binibeca for a great price.

Therefore, hotels become the most likely option for couples, which may perhaps not offer up a good match with how you usually travel or choose to experience somewhere. This actually became a source of frustration for us as we often couldn’t find any option between ‘ginormous villa’ and ‘underwhelming overpriced hotel’ within our budget or dates for a specific location. If Menorca wishes to geographically delineate between places for tourists and places for locals, but also encourage longer, sustainable stays, then there needs to be a happier middle ground for certain types of traveller; otherwise, they will not come.

So, what to do? The most economical option is actually staying in hotels in the more tourist-centric hubs by the coast or in the cities. That allows a bit of saving on accommodation, nice facilities and a decent location (if on holiday mode), but then you can also drive out to explore and experience more of Menorca with a rental car, scooter, or by bus.


Where To Stay in Menorca

A short note on how we’ve structured this section to hopefully make life easier for you. The purpose of writing this whole post is to change save you time and make sure you find the right base and accommodation for your travel style and budget.

Beginning in the southeast corner of Menorca and travelling clockwise around the island, we’ve shared a brief overview of each destination, the pros/cons of being based there, and a link to our specific blog post guide if we have one.

Within each, you’ll then find our pick of the very best accommodation there for various travel styles and budgets.

In curating this list for you after our month on the island, the key selection criteria was that we would be happy to stay in each location and at every Menorca accommodation included in this article; facilities, connections, and overwhelmingly positive guest reviews were also factored in and researched in-depth.

There are however a dozen or so personal favourites; not just places that are luxury (though a a few are), but the ones that are so unique, stylish, excellent value or set in a stunning location, that they will make any person's Menorca experience that extra bit special. We’ve marked these with an ADR next to their name!

Finally, if wanting a car for the duration of your holiday or to take day trips from your base, then it’s easiest and cheapest to collect it at the airport. Southeast Menorca

Punta Prima

Punta Prima's vibe is very much holiday-centric and tourist-focussed, catering particularly to families seeking a safe place to swim, a nice and accessible sandy beach, good-value accommodation (as well as luxury villas), and various facilities on hand. There’s a popular waterpark and a big Jet2 resort a 10-minute walk away as well, which is either a push or pull factor, depending on what you’re looking for.

Pros & Cons

+ Doesn't feel like a commercial resort

+ Several good to very-good restaurants

+ Bus connection to Mahón (25 mins) for day trips + airport

- No nightlife options or atmosphere really

- Accommodation quality is on the lower side generally (but still adequate)

Punta Prima Hotels

Insotel Punta Prima Prestige Suites & Spa | The beach town’s premier 5* offering, just 350 yards from beach. Top notch facilities, the rooms are large, modern and to a high standard (they also have a small kitchenette). Three on-site restaurants and extensive sports activities offered.

Note that the same company also offers a family-friendly hotel, which is also 5-star.

Occidental Hotel | An excellent hotel suitable for families with five large outdoor pools and a water park. Rooms are modern, clean and well-appointed (if a tad on the cheap side). Excellent location in Punta Prima.

Punta Prima Apartments

Bimbolla Apartments | This is a cheap and cheerful self-catering complex that, when between longer term rentals in Menorca, we returned to twice. The small apartments are very basic and lacking love but have all necessary amenities, decent sized terraces/balconies and a pretty nice pool area as well as breakfast included. If you’re on a budget, we’d definitely recommend taking a look.

Apartamentos Punta Prima Beach | Another excellent value option, especially if you prefer smaller resorts. The apartments are large and bright and tastefully furnished. If you can stretch to it, we’d recommend opting for one of the sea view apartments for views out over the water!

Punta Prima Villas

ADR Rustic House by the Sea | One of the few places that feels more like a stylish home rather than a holiday villa, this three bedroom may also cater for couples that want a bit of extra space. No pool but a charming outdoor area. From £84 a night.

ADR Stunning Modern Villa | If you’re looking for a beautifully designed, high-spec villa with a pool that caters for large groups (up to 10 people), you should absolutely take a look at this one - breathtaking! From £420 a night.

Dream House | Alternatively, this magnificent modern four bedroom property with views over the ocean (located five mins from Punta Prima and therefore offering slightly more privacy) is also an excellent option - especially if you want to stay for less than a week, with no nightly minimum. It deserves its rave reviews. From £463 a night.

Voramar Waterfront | Whilst the decor inside may be a little old fashioned, the location of this three-bedroom property is more than made up for with its location right on the water’s edge! From £183 a night.

Caseta de sa Palmera | We spotted the outside of this pretty little villa in the centre of Punta Prima, and are delighted that it looks as cute inside as it does out! With a nautical theme throughout, the real highlight is the outside area which allows you to take just a couple of steps from the sun lounger into the sea. Magical! Unfortunately this property has recently gone off-line, but it’s so lovely we’ll keep it here in the hopes it returns for summer 2024!

Binibeca

A pretty whitewashed village which spreads out along the coast, we picked Binibeca for our final week in Menorca. It's ideal for a villa rental and those looking to avoid a resort, but benefit from having things on your doorstep.

Pros & Cons

+ Walking distance to an excellent beach and swimming / sunbathing spots

+ Amenities and restaurants

+ Bus connection to Mahón (20 mins) for day trips + airport

- Limited number of hotels

- Village is busy with daytrippers

Binibeca Hotels

Menorca Binibeca by Pierre & Vacance Premium | As the only hotel in Binibeca, we felt the need to cover this option. With that said however, having read pages of reviews we personally chose not to stay here due to the negative experiences many previous guests had had. If that changes or you have positive stay, then do let us know in the comments!

We also had few nights at the brand new Barceló Nura (ADR), a very fancy hotel a half-hour walk from Binibeca. It’s a fantastic option if you’re a couple looking for a memorable experience or budget is of no concern.

Binibeca Apartments

Apartamentos HLG Binivell Park | A large section of the original dwellings designed by Antonio Sintes have been converted into an apartment complex known as Binivell Park. They offer a variety of one-bed and two-bed apartments as well as small studios. Do note that the decor is a little tired and they have kitchenettes rather than kitchens, but they remain a surprisingly good value option. Perhaps one for a few nights, rather than a week.

Alternatively, you can book to stay in a privately-run apartment within the original Binibeca Vell. These are of a much higher quality, however as there are only a handful, it is imperative that they are booked early - especially in high season. Our pick include:

Maravilloso apto | A super stylish three-bedroom apartment with excellent reviews and view from the balcony.

Apartment A | A small one-bed perfect for a couple. Kitchen facilities are a little limited but absolutely fine if eating most evening meals out.

Holiday Home | This lovely & modern one-bed has recently been refurbished and appears a lot lighter and brighter than others. Unfortunately it’s currently not available but we’ll keep an eye on the listing.

Apartamento Binibeca Nou | One of several small apartments in the same complex, this small two-bedroom is clean and modern although a little bland. It is however very reasonably priced, well located, has a communal pool and excellent reviews.

Lovely Apartment | Light, bright and clean two-bedroom apartment with a private balcony overlooking the sea and direct access to the water!

binibeca Villas

There are so many villas for rent in Binibeca that it’s honestly pretty tricky narrowing down the options! So although all villas listed are ones we’d like to stay in, there are plenty more to be found on accommodation websites.

Do note that we have discounted all properties with a communal pool as we imagine for most people that a villa with private pool is essential.

ADR Bini Blau | This is the three-bedroom villa that we stayed in for a week - and we can highly recommend it! Decorated with a beautiful rustic design, it had an excellent kitchen, lots of homely touches, a pool, fantastic roof terrace from which you could enjoy the sunset and was seconds away from the sea.

ADR House in Menorca | We love the aesthetic of this light & bright, recently renovated three-bedroom villa - a little nautical, a little boho-chic. Amazing views from all windows, and excellent reviews.

Binifa-Best | If you’re looking for an exquisitely designed, contemporary property with lots of space and a fabulous outdoors space - you need to take a look at this four-bedroom property! Just stunning.

Ty Bihan | This three-bed villa in Binibeca Vell is really great value (one of the cheaper we’ve come across in the area) but has plenty of lovely features including great design, lots of outdoors space, and big bedrooms.

Another excellently priced villa - this time in nearby Cala Torret - is Brisa Marina.

ADR Binibeca Villa | Another beautiful and contemporary villa which has been furnished and decorated to a high standard. All of the four bedrooms open onto a terrace area, the garden and pool area is large and well manicured and there is lots of room inside soon. Must be seen!

Cala En Porter

This is a popular option for those looking for a Menorcan resort town with a decent beach, however after spending a couple of hours exploring it, we honestly can't recommend it as a base.


South Coast of menorca

Son Bou

The town attached to the longest stretch of sandy beach in Menorca of the same name, we have a mixed opinion after our time staying there. The 4km beach is perfect for lazy days, and becomes quite rustic and secluded the further you walk along, whilst the town has plenty amenities. However, it's lacking in soul and the restaurant / bar quality is poor making self-catering preferable.

Pros & cons

+ Always a space on the beach, even in high season

+ On a particularly beautiful section of the Camí de Cavalls

+ Lots of hotel and private accommodation options

+ Bus connection to Ciutadella and Mahón

+ Unlike many places, there are an abundance of smaller apartments for couples

- Relatively isolated from other areas of interest

- Best if you have a rental car or scooter

- Quite a resort vibe in parts

Son Bou Hotels

Royal Son Bou Family Club | As the name would suggest, if family entertainment (and entertainment of your kids whilst you relax by the pool) is a priority, this 4* hotel is an excellent choice. Great facilities and comfortable rooms.

Alternatively, consider Arenas de Son Bou or Valentin Son Bou (best to avoid these two if you’re a young couple, or dislike package holiday vibes).


Son Bou Apartments

Comfy Two-Bed | This is the two-bedroom apartment we stayed in and can definitely recommend it. Comfortable furnishings (although a few things could do with a little modernising), with an excellent kitchen, lovely terrace, and good communal pool. Located a 15-minute walk from Son Bou, it’s very peaceful and right on the Cami!

ADR Seaview Design Apartment | There’s a reason why this recently renovated two-bedroom apartment has so many excellent reviews - it’s beautiful! All clean lines, minimal contemporary design, lots of white, light and space. Also has fabulous terrace with views out over the water.

Perfect For Two | Small but perfectly formed, this modern two-bed is ideal for couples - and with a cracking price point that’s great for those on a budget.

Son Bou Apartment 2 is also an excellent option for couples looking to save a little cash.


Son Bou Villas

ADR Modern Design, Small Villa | Despite a slightly questionable kitchen cabinet colour choice, this two bedroom apartment villa, located within a boutique resort, is really quite lovely. Beautifully designed, it has a private terrace and access to a large communal pool.

If a three bed villa with private pool is exactly what you’re looking for, be sure to also take a look at Villa Horizonte, Exclusive Son Bou Villa, Villa Amoura,

Luxury Villa | This excellent three-bedroom villa, with views looking out to sea and a fabulous pool area, is ideal for a family looking for lots of space. There’s a good kitchen a two twin rooms and a double. This property is currently not available but we’ll keep an eye on the listing.

Villa Sunset | A massive, gorgeous villa with five bedrooms, this is perfect for large groups or families.

This Deluxe Villa and Villa Galerna are also great options if you need five bedrooms.

Santo Tomas

If it wasn’t for its location, we wouldn’t be recommending Santo Tomas to independent travellers.

A popular resort for all-inclusive hotels (it appears to be a hub for Jet2 and TUI), many people who stay in this area are quite content to enjoy a week in a nice hotel in a beautiful setting with direct access to a lovely beach - but accept that the vast majority of their meals will be eaten at their hotel and they may not explore too much else of the island.

For independent travellers however, its location slap bang in the middle of the south coast means Santo Tomas is ideal for those who want to pair walking, beautiful beach days in a peaceful environment, and perhaps have a car to venture further afield.

Pros & Cons

+ Walking distance to several excellent beaches

+ Access point for a stunning coastal walking path (Cami de Cavalls and Litoral Path)

+ Bus connection to Ciutadella and Mahón

- Overall experience will heavily depend on where you stay

- There are more high-rise hotels than elsewhere on the island

- Few options but to eat at your hotel, therefore leading to a very resort-like experience unless happy to self-cater

santo tomas Hotels

Hotel 55 Santo Tomas | A relatively new, modern four-star hotel with great amenities, and spacious and contemporary rooms (some suites include private swim-up pool!). Also has a large pool, spa and two on-site restaurants.

Hotel Santo Tomas | Another 4* option, this hotel is a fair bit older than the one above, but still has great facilities, direct beach access, large comfortable rooms and guests speak very highly of the spa / fitness suite.

Want to avoid children on your trip? This adults-only hotel is the one for you!


Santo Tomas Apartments / Aparthotels

Mestral & Llebeig | A small, three-star apartment complex with several pools and gardens, that caters well to families with young children. Rooms are clean and comfortable (albeit a bit basic), but they provide a good value option in peak season.

An alternative option is Hamilton Court.

Apartment in Santo Tomas | This modern two-bedroom apartment - recently refurbished and redecorated - is ideal for a couple or small family. Sea views and only few metres from beach. Also has free private parking and pool access.

Santo Tomas Con Vistas | This two-bedroom apartment is a little more shabby chic than we’d generally go for but with balcony sea views, a good kitchen, metres from the beach and really excellent reviews it’s worth taking a look.


santo tomas Villas

Villa Noelia | Colourful four-bed villa with colourful but tasteful decor, comfortable furnishings, good kitchen, outdoor space, and a large pool - perfect for a family! 350 metres from the beach.

Large Villa With Sea Views | With seven bedrooms this villa is far too big for the vast majority of holiday makers, but if travelling in a large group would be our pick in Santo Tomas.

Villa Paraiso | Absolutely stunning, split-level, three-bedroom villa with wonderful views out over the water from multiple balconies. The pool area is especially lovely. Definitely on the pricier end budget wise, but looks worth it!

Villa German | Just a few minutes walk from the beach, this cozy villa offers a rustic design and plenty of space. Excellent outdoor area with large swimming pool, built-in barbecue and loungers.

Pssst! the four-bedroom Villa Lucia looks bloody gorgeous but is yet to receive any reviews - be sure to keep an eye out!

Cala Galdana

If there is one place on the south of Menorca which will have something for every travel style, it’s Cala Galdana. Although very much a package holiday destination, its location between two of the most famous and beautiful virgin beaches on the island, the number of boat rental and kayak companies, and the fact it has accommodation options for all budgets, makes it an ideal base for the first-timer in Menorca looking to both explore and relax.

+ Lots of watersport activities (kayaks, self licence boats) depart from here

+ Cala Galdana beach is very family friendly

+ Good options for adults-only hotels with a bit more of a lifestyle focus

Cala Galdana Hotels

Artiem Audax | We stayed in another Artiem property whilst visiting Mahón, and only have very excellent things to say about the sustainability-focussed chain. This particular 4* hotel is modern, right on the water, adults-only and has a focus on fitness, wellness and outdoors pursuits - perfect for a young, active couple.

ADR Meliá Cala Galdana | Cala Galdana’s most luxurious hotel offering. Super modern and right on the beachfront, the facilities are top notch (think spa, infinity pool, yoga and pilates classes, excellent Italian restaurant) and whilst some of the rooms are a tad on the smaller, they are all of good quality with superb views.


Cala Galdana Apartments & Aparthotels

Hotel Cala Galdana & Apartamentos d'Aljandar | Whilst they do offer standalone rooms, it is the apartments within this complex that we are particularly drawn to. Clearly having undergone a recent upgrade, they are clean and contemporary and really quite well-priced for the standard.

Comitas Floramar is a good alternative to the above, with equally modern apartments and good amenities.

Ilunion Menorca | Another really great aparthotel in Cala Galdana, this time with a sustainability focus. Apartments are simple but modern, well-furnished and of a good size - they’re also really good value, even in super high season. Located a 10-minute walk from the beach.

If you’re looking for a decent budget-friendly apartment, take a look at New, White Cottage and Apartamento en Cala Galdana.

Not the fanciest of accommodations, but these four two-bedroom properties in a complex called ‘Sea Alzines’ receive consistently good reviews on Airbnb. A little walk up the hill from the centre of Cala Galdana, they do have great views and a communal pool. Find the listings here: Casa Cris, Casa Lluis, Casa David and Casa Febrer.

Cala Galdana Villas

Miramar | This excellent three-bedroom, split level property is comfortably furnished, comes with a private pool, and its location above the main centre of Cala Galdana provides amazing views - and a quiet place to enjoy them!

Chalet con Piscina Privada | This three-bedroom house is on the pricier side, but one look at the photos and you’ll understand why! Large, really well furnished and full of home comforts - it has a lovely garden area with good-sized private pool.

Villa Bella Vista | Looking for a property for a large group? Consider this excellent four-bedroom villa. Comfortably furnished, it’s best feature is the large private pool with swim-up views out over Cala Galdana below.

Cala En Bosc & Son Xoriguer

Whilst we personally didn’t love either of these resort areas - popular with package holiday companies - they are certainly more palatable than others in the northeast of the island.

Another important thing to note is that your money goes much further in Cala en Bosc than elsewhere in Menorca, with a super luxurious hotel here costing around the same as a standard one in the southeast. Perhaps a good option if you want to visit Menorca but the focus is on relaxation, the hotel pool, and only a day trip or two.

+ Cala En Bosc has a really lovely white sand beach with great swimming.

+ Good amenities

+ Good connections to Ciutadella

- Restaurants catered to the tourist rather than focussing on good local cuisine

- Far from airport by bus or a €65+ taxi ride

cala en bosc Hotels

ADR Lago Resort Menorca | As one might expect for a 5* property, this adults-only hotel is absolutely stunning! Contemporary, rustic-chic design throughout, the rooms are large (some with private pools) and well-thought out, and the communal areas and amenities excellent.

Two other 4* adult-only hotels to consider are Valentin Star Menorca and La Quinta Menorca by PortBlue Boutique.

cala en bosc Apartments

Menorcamar | Whilst the apartments are a little basic, they are clean and modern, and as an adults-only accommodation it offers a great alternative for those that don’t want to surrounded by kids but equally don’t want to stay in a hotel.

Grupotel Aldea Cala'n Bosch | Modern and super tastefully decorated (lots of light and muted tones), these apartments are really lovely. The aparthotel itself offers private access to the beach as well as two swimming pools.

Carema Beach Menorca is another really great apartment choice, or if you can bag one of the recently redecorated apartments, we’d also recommend MarSenses Paradise Club.

cala en bosc Villas

Perez Garden Villa | Very modern, this four-bedroom villa is light, bright and roomy and has a fantastic outdoors area with private pool.

Villa Menorca | Fully renovated recently, this light and bright villa has gorgeous contemporary design throughout, a private pool set within large gardens (perfect for alfresco dining) and excellent reviews.

ADR Family Chalet | A gorgeous little three-bed villa full of neutral tones and contemporary design. Appears a little on the small size internally but the large external terrace and pool area more than make up for it. Also has a large rooftop terrace - perfect for sunsets! Unfortunately this listing is currently unavailable but we’re keeping it here in case it comes back online (it is one of our favourites after all!)

Another super popular three-bedroom villa (with private pool) to take a look at is Villa in Bosc.

Villa Estrella | Whilst previous guests agree that this property could do with a little modernising, the reviews are really quite excellent. The house itself is light, bright and comfortable, and the several outdoors areas - including the large pool - are highly-spoken of.

Also consider Casa en complejo privado, Farblau, and La Casa del Vents.

West Menorca

Ciutadella

We only planned for a day trip to pretty Ciutadella but, craving different restaurants, culture, and drinking holes after so long at the beach, we decided to stick around for a few nights.

A good decision.

Although staying in a city may not be what you’d automatically think of for Menorca, it does make a bunch of day trips to several of the best beaches in Menorca much easier with public transport, open up fancier and stylish accommodations, and offer more buzz and atmosphere at local haunts in the evenings.

For certain couples, this may be a better choice for your base or a few nights than on the western coast.

Pros & Cons

+ Great and quick bus connections to lots of beaches and things to do in Menorca

+ Great restaurants, more culture, life, and local vibes than the coast

+ Better value and higher quality accommodation available

+ The only place on Menorca with any real nightlife

+ Start point for boat trips and self-licence boat hire

- It’s a city with no beach / may not give you the holiday vibe

- Far from airport by bus or a €65+ taxi ride

ciutadella Hotels & Guest Houses

ADR Faustino Gran Relais & Chateaux | If money is no object, then this stunning boutique hotel should go right to the top of your list! Housed in a 17th century chateau in the centre of the historic district, they offer a variety of luxurious suites and elegant rooms, all with exquisite decor. They also have an indoor and outdoor pool, as well as gardens.

At a similar price-point, you could also consider Hotel Ca S'Arader Turismo de Interior or La Cayena Hotel Boutique - Solo Adultos

Sodium Boutique Hotel | An excellent choice for anybody that appreciates contemporary design, the real plus point with this excellent hotel is that every room has a good sized balcony or private terrace.

ADR Port Antic Ciutadella | This is where we stayed. Located in the historic centre, it is a collection of rooms in a traditional townhouse, all decorated in a contemporary style. Quiet and excellent value (less than £100 a night), but do note there are no staff on-site, instead all entry codes / check-in is done online.

ADR HoMe Menorca | This is one we had our eye on, but alas was snapped up for our dates. Operating in a similar way to Port Antic, HoMe has bigger rooms, better communal space (including an outdoor area) and cool styling, as well as including a simple breakfast. Excellent location.

Hotel Nou Sant Antoni | Remarkably well-priced for such a beautiful hotel (rooms from around £110 a night), Hotel Nou Sant Antoni reminds us somewhat of the accommodations you can stay at in Puglia. Charming communal areas and guests speak highly of the breakfast.

ciutadella Apartments

Charming Studio | A gorgeous little studio apartment (one of several in the same building), combining traditional Menorcan features, like white-washed walls - with unique decoration collected on the owner’s travels. A real gem - and very highly rated.

Appartement Charmant | This gorgeous three-bedroom duplex apartment occupies the top two floors of a traditional townhouse and just oozes authentic charm (but with all the necessary modern updates). It’s a super popular option, no doubt in part because of the stunning rooftop terrace!

For a simple but aesthetically pleasing two-bedroom apartment, check out this option located right in front of the Cathedral.

Unfortunately, at the time of update (February 2024), the following two properties were not available, but we’re keeping the listings here as they were two top picks. Feel free to check them out in case they reappear - and we’ll keep an eye on them too!

Designer Loft | The most expensive Airbnb on the list, but this funky one-bedroom loft definitely deserves a mention - especially for its large plant-filled terrace. Note that the loft is within a boutique hotel, and is adults only.

Ubicación privilegiada en Ciutadella | Simple, modern and large one-bedroom apartment ideal for a couple. Good value (from £85 a night), the real highlight is the huge terrace that overlooks the historic centre - an ideal spot to watch the sun set!

Townhouses

ADR Menorca Sa Font | A beautiful three bedroom townhouse that has recently been refurbished to a high standard. Light and bright with clean lines and contemporary decor. In the historic centre, it also has a wonderful private outdoor area.

Casa Centro | This central, five bedroom townhouse is remarkably well priced (from just £86 a night). Set over multiple floors it feels traditional and homely in its design. Includes small private outdoor area.

Town House With Pool | Located a short walk from the old town, this modern three-bed property with would really suit a family who have hired a car and wish to explore the island. Large kitchen with all mod cons, excellent bedrooms and - best of all - a private pool!

Los Delfines

Just outside Ciutadella, this tired resort is definitely not a place we recommend staying in. It does however have one of our favourite swimming spots on the island, so you may wish to stop by.

North Menorca

Cala Morell

If there’s one place that goes a little under the radar, but actually ticks a lot of boxes, it’s Cala Morell. If you’re looking somewhere isolated, with superb hiking access, stylish accommodation and great swimming / sunbathing / snorkelling spots, do give this a consideration.

Pros & Cons

+ Doesn’t feel touristy or like a resort

+ Right on the water

+ Great hiking nearby

- Very limited dining options (although it does have one of the island’s most sought after restaurants)

- Absolutely need a car if staying here

- No sandy beach

Cala Morell Apartments

Bright Apartment With Sea Views | This super cute two-bed apartment would suit a couple perfectly. Everything you’d need to enjoy a wonderful little holiday including a good-sized terrace with views out over the water.

Another excellent two-bed property to take a look at is this one - also with a balcony overlooking the sea and well-priced.

ADR Casa Rockmorell | Being a studio, this won’t suit everybody, but we personally think this little apartment is super charming. A really comfy but contemporary aesthetic, it also has an outdoor terrace area. Ideal for Cami walkers as it’s just a few metres off the trail.

Good Value Apartment | This one-bedroom tourist apartment may not be the most spectacular on the list, but it does come at an excellent price (around £65 a night in June!). A tad basic but clean & comfortable, and you’ll have access to a great communal pool!


Cala Morell Villas

ADR Villa Sombre La Playa | No two ways about it - this four-bedroom villa is absolutely stunning! Stylish, modern design throughout, it has been furnished to a very high standard. The high point however is the outdoor area - fantastic pool area, terrace and summer dining room all overlooking the sea. There’s even a private path leading directly to the beach.

If it’s a four-bedroom property you’re looking for, be sure to check out this bright and airy villa with garden and pool. It’s not quite as fabulous as the above, but still a good choice for a family - at a slightly lower price point.

ADR Luxurious & Quiet House | This gorgeous four-bedroom property, set on a large piece of land offers privacy but remains super close to the beach. It’s got a good-sized private pool, ample communal spaces (both inside and out), and a stylish design throughout. It also has exceptional reviews.

Villa With Sea Views | Another excellent choice, this time with three-bedrooms. Super modern aesthetic with lots of light, this villa is set over two floors and has a beautiful decked terrace area with large pool.

This three-bed villa with gorgeous roof-top terrace is also definitely worth looking at!

Villa en Bosque | If you prefer your rentals to look a little more homely rather than a blank contemporary canvas, take a look at this three-bedroom rustic villa surrounded by forest.


Fornells

As we’ve mentioned, lots of places to stay on Menorca’s coast are modest resorts with the architecture and vibe catered to that; Fornells is one of the few glorious exceptions. The photogenic small harbour town is popular with day trippers who come to try its famous lobster caldera, but base yourself here and you’ll enjoy a slice of Menorcan life as well.

The eagle-eyed amongst you will notice that there is a resort called Platges de Fornells on the western side of the peninsula, however as the best thing about being this far north is the ability to stay in a traditional Menorca town, we wouldn’t recommend it as a base. It’s also more of a tourist hub than its namesake.

+ Great swimming spots and watersports, plus all the northern beaches boat tours leave from here

- Need your own rental car (bus connection to Mahón but most day trips require a change)

- Accommodation can be quite expensive

Fornells Hotels

La Palma | A mixture of light, bright and modern private rooms, La Palma is right in the harbour and comes with a pool plus bar/cafe. Given the rarity of serviced rooms available in Fornells, this is a great choice. Breakfast is included for stays of more than three nights (excluding August).

Hostal S’Algaret| Fitting firmly within the category of ‘basic but functional’ this simple hotel has proved popular with previous guests for its clean and comfortable rooms, the outdoor pool and garden area plus the hospitable hotel staff. It’s also got a decent location, just a five-minute walk from the centre of Fornells.

fornells Apartments

Small Apartment | With one-beds at a premium in Menorca, this little apartment is perfect for a couple. Located in the heart of Fornells, it’s wellfurnished and has a balcony overlooking the sea and access to a communal pool.

Mevamar 1 | A bright and shiny, brand new three-bed apartment in the centre of Fornells. Good sized rooms, well-equipped kitchen and large terrace overlooking the harbour.

Menorquina Ground Floor Apartment | This clean, comfortable and well-furnished two bedroom apartment is remarkably well priced (one of the budget friendly places to stay in Fornells), but still highly rated with great reviews. Excellent location and small balcony.

fornells Townhouses

ADR Seaside Shelter | This adorable little townhouse oozes charm, is full of traditional features well matched with contemporary design features and antique pieces. and also has small interior patio. Just lovely!

Other house to consider include: Luxury Semi-detached Townhouse and Luxury House.

fornells Villas

Charming Villa on Seafront | Whilst a number of villas in Fornells have a slight sterile feel, this four-bed option looks super comfortable, light and bright and stylishly decorated. It also has a lovely outdoor area, and large pool that overlooks the sea.

The three-bedroom Villa La Plaza is also worth taking a look at.

If you’re planning a trip to Menorca as a large group the good news is that there are plenty of villas to choose from, including these two excellent options in Fornells - Charming Seafront Villa and The Perfect Retreat.

Do note that there are a number of apartment rentals and small villas located in Ses Salinas, a couple of kilometres south of Fornells. This is where we stayed, but we wouldn’t recommend it due to the relatively long walk required to get to and from the town, which made eating out in the evening more of a chore than it should have been.

Son Saura, Son Parc & Arenal D’En Castell

In order to access Son Saura, one needs to drive through Son Parc, a relatively untidy resort area filled with dilapidated buildings and closed down restaurants; we didn't like Son Parc at all, and would highly recommend avoiding it. The only exception would be if you’re a golfer, as this is the location of the island’s only gold club.

Arenal Son Saura - the beach area - is however a fairly pleasant stretch of sand, backed by dunes, and Beach Club Menorca, the hotel which lines the shore, doesn’t look too bad.

A few kilometres further east you will find Arenal D’En Castell, a place we have absolutely nothing good to say about and an area in which we would avoid staying at all costs.

Eastern Menorca

Es Grau

This charming little village is super peaceful and the polar opposite of the busier beach towns in the south. Whilst the slow way of life will not appeal to everyone, its location within the Albufera des Grau National Park, cute little coastal vibe and nature opportunities will be a dream for older visitors.

Pros & cons

+ very peaceful

+ located on a sandy beach with calm swimming waters

+ the island’s main kayaking company operates out of here

+ access to various nature trails and the Cami de Cavalls

- may be too quiet for some

- transport connections are very limited, and we wouldn’t stay here without a car

- very limited amenities

es grau Apartments

Two Bed with Sea Views | This new, modern apartment is clean, comfortable and with all the facilities you’ll need for a perfect stay. The real high point however is the incredible roof top terrace with panoramic sea views!

Beautiful Apartment | This newly renovated three-bedroom apartment has been stylishly upgraded, with a contemporary twist on traditional Menorcan style. Also comes with large roof top terrace. Perfect for a family.

Views Over Water | Whilst the furnishings are not quite as aesthetically pleasing as the two above properties, this one-bedroom apartment is still a fine choice - especially once you factor in the balcony literally overlooking the water.

Mahón

As with Ciutadella, the capital city of Mahón may not be your first choice when thinking about where to stay in Menorca. However, as a central transport hub for the southeast and the cultural centre of the island, there are actually lots of great things to do for those of you don’t want to be at the beach every single day or would prefer local living.

Pros & Cons

+ lots of great restaurants, foodie experiences, and things to do

+ fantastic connections to the southeast and across Menorca

- it’s a city with no beach

- if you want to stay in a city but have to pick, we personally preferred Ciutadella

mahon Hotels & Guesthouses

ADR ARTIEM Capri | This fantastic eco-hotel is where we stayed, and we couldn’t recommend it highly enough. A couple of minutes from the bus station, whilst it is a 10-minute walk to the centre and port, its positives more than make up for it! Excellent breakfast, large modern rooms, rooftop pool and gym plus - and this is a big plus - between 2pm and 6am, they have a self-service snack bar with unlimited food and drinks (including booze). It’s also very reasonably prized.

The same company also offers apartments, Artiem Apartamentos.

ADR Cristine Bedfor | There are several excellent 5* boutique hotels in Mahon, but Christine Bedfor really stood out to us. The true definition of boutique, rooms are exquisitely decorated, each in a different but complementary aesthetic. Furnishings throughout are uniquely beautiful and the communal areas simply gorgeous. There is also an outdoor area with pool.

The other two 5* properties of note are Casa Ládico (adults only) and Jardí de Ses Bruixes Boutique Hotel.

Hotel Hevresac Singular & Small | Another property with a focus on sustainability, we love the contemporary design at Hotel Hotel Hevresac. If you like clean lines, staying amongst art, and a modern aesthetic then definitely check this one out.

ADR Can Alberti | If not yet clear, there an an abundance of really quite beautiful and boutique accommodations in Mahon - Can Alberti can very much be added to that list! Rooms hint towards the traditional but have a contemporary edge. A real bonus is the beautiful garden and communal areas.

Hostal Jume | Perfect for independent travellers, or those that want a more budget friendly place to stay. This modern and stylish hostel has no dorms but great communal areas, good breakfast included with most rates and excellent location.

mahon Apartments

ADR Casa Turqueta | A collection of five one-bedroom beautifully remodelled apartments, in a period property. Each have been decorated and outfitted to a high standard with wonderful original features throughout, and are ideal for couples or solo travellers. Find all the listings here.

The following three apartments are currently not available, but we’re leaving the listings here in case they reappear for the summer 2024 season. Feel free to check out the listings in case they’re back online, and we’ll keep an eye on them too!

Casa Agnes | This large one bedroom apartment is ideal for couples that need a little more space, and boasts a decent kitchen, lots of light, period features and a great location.

Casa Carlota | This minimalist and modern loft/studio is excellently located in the centre of Mahon, and comes with a large terrace that’s perfect for a sport of sunbathing. Would suit a couple perfectly!

ADR Loft | One for the art lovers, this one-bedroom apartment in a photographer’s studio is full of East London vibes (in a good way). If you don’t enjoy carbon-copy Airbnbs, definitely take a look at this one.

Home With Charm | A home that was built into a cave within the city’s old walls, this unique two-bedroom Airbnb is a little dated in its decor but the huge balcony overlooking the port more than makes up for it.

mahon Townhouses

ADR Sant Roc | This traditional four bedroom townhouse is typically Spanish but with a contemporary, high-spec twist (honestly, it looks beautiful). Central location, it also has a courtyard and rooftop terrace, Would suit a large family or group of friends.

If the above sounds perfect for you but it’s not avaialble, be sure to check out the almost as lovely Didi House.

Completely impractical for most, but if you’re looking for a large property, you absolutely have to check out this Airbnb in a former chapel - five bedrooms and a whole heap of beautiful design!

Es Castell

Although it’s situated just east of Mahón, the pretty little historical harbour town of Es Castell offers quite a different experience to the capital. Home to quite a number of really excellent restaurants by the water and two luxurious adults-only hotels, this would suit foodies and couples who aren’t too bothered about being on the beach every day down to a tee.

Pros & Cons

+ excellent restaurants and relaxed late-night drinks

+ nightly market in summer

+ quick connections to Mahón and the airport

+ an ideal location for big groups who want a large villa close to the capital

- no beach and swimming holes are a walk away

- to access the rest of island, you will need to connect in Mahón or Sant LLuís

Es Castell Hotels

Barceló Hamilton Menorca | This modern 4* adults-only hotel has a really luxurious feel, excellent facilities (including panoramic rooftop terrace) and only a few minutes walk from Es Castell’s best restaurants.

ARTIEM Carlos | Whilst the rooms could be considered a tad basic, this four-star adults only hotel has excellent facilities, views over the water, a great sustainable ethos and would be perfect for a younger couple.

Pardela Menorca | If you prefer smaller properties with a little more charm, this beautiful hotel may be more your cup of tea. Comfortable and stylish rooms with a nod to the nautical, they also offer a guest terrace with lovely views.

Es Castell Apartments

Harbour Views | This brand new three bed apartment is roomy, light, bright and with modern furnishings. Also offers wonderful views out over Es Castell harbour.

Duplex With Views | This three-bed duplex apartment offers two terraces and views over Mahon Harbour. Comfortable furnishings, it also has a communal pool and a parking space (garage).

There is a bit of a dearth of one/two bed properties in Es Castell; the only real option for a couple is this two-bed apartment. It’s a bit basic, but could be okay if you just plan on using it as a base. (it does however have excellent views from the balcony!).

This may turn out to be a decent two bedroom (it looks nice) but currently has no reviews.

Es Castell Villas

The crop of the villas we could find in Es Castell were specifically for large groups (unless of course you were a couple that didn’t mind staying in a five bed property!) - and they are gorgeous!

All seafront, all with pools, all furnished and decorated to a high standard

Interior menorca

Alaior

One of our very favourite places in Menorca, and the best of the three interior towns along the Me-1. Alongside local life and pretty streets, it is becoming a cultural hub on the island too. It doesn’t hurt that there’s also rescue centre filled with adorable donkeys nearby!

A great option for independent travellers not concerned with staying on the coast.

Pros & Cons

+ good restaurants and local life

+ is not a resort in any way, shape or form

+ excellent transport connection and rental car routes

+ a number of stunning, traditional townhouses to stay in

+ rescue animals to visit nearby!

- staying in the interior will not be ideal for many (i.e. no beaches nearby)

- very limited hotel options

alaior Hotels

Hotel Petit Encant de Alaior | One of Alaior’s only hotel offerings, this minimal but modern accommodation is full of light, has good-sized rooms and a great location. Perfect for a couple who plan on getting out and about!

alaior Townhouse

ADR Es Banyer | There’s a reason this three-bed property is so highly rated - it’s beautiful! A traditional home that has been refurbished sensitively to maintain original features but with contemporary design, it boasts large bedrooms, a patio and a rooftop terrace.

Typical Menorcan Village House | This cute little two-bed townhouse is exactly the sort of place we’d like to stay! Traditional in style, it definitely not modern but that’s part of its charm. Has a small terrace with views over town.

ADR Charming Village House* | Painstakingly restored by an architect, this beautifully three-bed house in the centre of Alaior is set over several levels with two large terraces. Full of light, not a single detail has been has been forgotten when it comes to design. We’d stay in a heartbeat!

*Unfortunately, this property is currently unavailable, but we’re hoping it’ll be back online at some point in 2024!

alaior Villas

ADR Sa Close | There are so many excellent and beautiful accommodation options in Alaior, and this recently restored countryside property is of no exception! With just one-bedroom (a real rarity in Menorca), it’s perfect for a couple looking for a quiet escape, but who don’t want to sacrifice style and design. Also has a small swimming pool. Do note that it’s located a couple of kilometres outside of Alaior so you’d need a car.

In the process of creating this article, we have looked at hundreds of listings - Binife is without a doubt one of the most luxurious with regards to amenities (including outdoor AND indoor pools). Ideal for a family who don’t mind a splurge.

Rural Retreat| This large, four-bed country pile is ABSOLUTELY STUNNING! The interiors are wonderful, but it’s the manicured grounds and pool that really sets it apart. Reviews are, as you would expect, excellent.

Alaior Agriturismos

There are a surprisingly large number of excellent agriturismos (that is old farm houses that have been converted into stunning accommodations) near Alaior.

ADR Menorca Experimental | Located just outside Alaior, this gorgeous this gorgeous 19th century property set on 30 acres of land is agriturismo, meets boutique hotel, meets artist retreat. Impeccable contemporary design - whilst not compromising on traditional elements of the farmhouse - large aesthetically pleasing rooms (some with private plunge pools), a gorgeous pool and excellent restaurant. One of our tp picks not just in Alaior, but in Menorca more generally.

Amagatay | Under the watchful eye of interior designer Virginia Nieto, this former 19th century farmhouse and stables has been painstakingly transformed into a stunning boutique agriturismo. Using natural materials throughout and a calming colour palette of creams, beiges and taupes, they offer 20 uniquely designed suites, a swimming pool, olive grove grounds, and a farm-to-table restaurant.

Agroturismo Turmaden des Capita is another excellent option.

Es Mercadal

The home of the ensäimada and one of the island’s most famous restaurants, the white-washed Es Mercadal is pretty much at the crossroads of Menorca. So whilst it is far away from a beach, it’s easy to access either coast with public transport or your own rental car.

Pros & Cons

+ good restaurants and local life

+ is not a resort in any way, shape or form

+ excellent transport connection and rental car routes

- staying in the interior will not be ideal for many (i.e. no beaches nearby)

- very limited hotel and accommodation options

ADR Hotel m - 27 | A contemporary beauty - full of wonderful little design features - in Es Mercadal’s historic centre. We’d stay here in a heartbeat! Superb reviews, and guests speak very highly of the owners.

Hotel Es Mercadal | Comfortable, clean and homely rooms, set within a 19th century typical Menorcan home. Excellent reviews and a good breakfast. Also very good value, with rooms less than £130 a night in July.

ADR Spectacular House in Centre of Island | A recently restored, late 19th century town house, with four bedrooms and set over three floors. It’s bloody gorgeous! Super modern in its design, it light, white and bright but maintains beautiful traditional features. Also has garden and pool.

Central House | With four bedrooms, this house is ideal for a family (although the space is a little on the small side). Clean with modern furnishings, it also has a good-sized private garden.

Rustic House* | This super cute, traditional little Menorcan townhouse may be a little too rustic for some, but it has excellent reviews, three bedrooms, is located in the centre of Es Mercadal - and is an absolute steal price wise!

Note that this property is currently not available but we’ll keep an eye on the listing in case it comes back online. A good alternative is this three-bedroom house which benefits from a lovely roof terrace.
