The Six Best Hostels in Siem Reap | A Backpackers Guide

Siem Reap is the place you have to stay in Cambodia for at least a few nights before and after you visit the iconic temples of Angkor Wat.

The compact riverside town sees thousands of visitors pass through it each day, and offers up huge, diverse range of accommodation options.  But, if you're heading to the town in a few days, or trying to get all your route planning sorted out well in advance, we've done all the hard work to help you pick the perfect Siem Reap hostel for your travel budget and your travel style!

All of the hostels included in this post are personally researched and selected by us, and we've included key information on vibe, location, facilities, suitability for solo travellers or travelling couples, as well as typical prices. If we wouldn't stay there, or guest reviews are terrible, then it simply doesn't make the list.

Some of the hostels are right in the lively centre of Siem Reap, close to the infamous neon-lined Pub Street and night markets, whilst a handful are across the river on the cooler, quieter side of town in the Wat Bo neighbourhood - but all of them are in an ideal location to make the most of your stay and to easily get to / from Angkor Wat.

From the social to the secluded, the poolside boutique to the cheap as chips party hostel, these are the six best hostels in Siem Reap for backpackers and travellers.

All dorm beds in this post range from $3-10 per person, whilst doubles are $12-26 (at time of writing). Note that US Dollars ($) are the main currency used in Cambodia by travellers, so all prices are listed in that. Booking in advance is recommended for the high season in Cambodia (November - March), whilst prices can also increase during that period.

Onederz Hostel Siem Reap | The Amazing Value One

This hostel chain has a few properties in Cambodia, but this modern, well-designed option in Siem Reap is probably the best (and it’s also currently the highest-rated hostel in Siem Reap on Hostelworld). Onederz Hostel Siem Reap offers up incredible value for hotel-like facilities with a hostel atmosphere that's great for solo travellers as well as couples or groups.

Lub d Cambodia | The Flashpacker One

This place is the newest Siem Reap hostel on the list, but is fantastic for both couples and solo travellers. It does however come at a higher price than the other hostels on this list, hence why it's our 'flashpacker option'.

Set in the Wat Bo neighbourhood, Lub D Cambodia is a big hostel that's clearly put a lot of thought, love, and time into its design and set-up. Although their dorm rooms are all for 10 people, they are some of the fanciest, most spacious dorms we've ever seen (including separate changing areas so others don’t wake you up, steps to the top bunk, and hair straighteners), so the numbers shouldn't put you off. Their bathrooms will also make you feel happy inside.

Best for | Social travellers who aren't on a tight budget, and digital nomads.

Facilities | An outdoors pool, outdoors bar and restaurant area, 24-hour reception, a bunch of indoors common areas, lockers.

Location | Across the river in Wat Bo, so a 10 minute walk to Pub Street.

Avg Rating | 9.4 (1323 reviews)

Prices | A bed in the massive 10 bed mixed and 10 bed female dorms are $7 per person. Private en-suite doubles are $26 per night.

Babel Siem Reap Guesthouse | For Cool Couples

In the Wat Bo neighbourhood, which is the quieter and less touristic part of Siem Reap, Babel offers up a little oasis of green comfort and calm. It also emphasises sustainability (something which hostels in Siem Reap need to get better at, as well as travellers in general).

Where to stay in Siem Reap

Best for | Travelling couples or friends who don't want to be near the craziness of Pub Street, don't want a party hostel, or need a few days in a nice room in a nice hostel getting a good night's sleep. They also have a few dorm beds.

Facilities | The rooms are like a hotel, clean, comfortable, modern, and tastefully decorated in minimalist tones. There's also a wonderful tropical garden area to relax in and a small cafe / bar / restaurant. The only downside is that there is no pool.

Location | Across the river in Wat Bo, which is where we stayed and close to the best places to eat and hang out in Siem Reap. You're still only a 10-15 minute walk to the tourist centre.

Avg Rating | 9.7 (444 reviews)

Prices | Private ensuite twins and doubles cost $25 per night.

The Hideout | The Cheap, Decent, Eco-Friendly One

Its design is pretty basic - or rather it's just more like how a hostel used look back in the day - but the excellent traveller reviews, cheap prices, and the fact it puts its sustainability credentials at the fore means The Hideout deserves to be on this list.

Guests also get a free beer each night from 7-8 pm and a free shot at 9 pm!

Best for | Social backpackers on a budget.

Facilities | Outdoor pool, bar and restaurant, pool table, a bunch of social areas, rooftop, lockers. They have various energy-saving efforts, plus filtered water for bottle refills, no plastic straws, and all plastic bottles are recycled.

Location | A little further outside the centre of Siem Reap than other hostels on this list, but still just a 5-10 minute walk to Pub Street and the Central Market.

Avg Rating | 9.1 (792 reviews)

Prices | Dorm beds cost $3 - $5 depending on the number of beds in the room. Private en-suite double rooms are $17 - $25 depending on whether you go for the 'deluxe' or 'superior'.
