With literally thousands of airbnbs in Cartagena, how on earth do you find one right for you?
Well, you read this curated guide to our pick of some of the best airbnbs in Cartagena!
Fully Updated March 2023
Cartagena’s rather rapid rise to fame in the last few years means that there are now no shortage of Airbnbs available in city, particularly in the areas most popular with visiting intonational tourists - the Walled City and Getsemani.
Whilst we still find it a little uncomfortable that many of these rental properties have come as the result of significant gentrification (especially in the more backpacker-centric area of Getsemani), for those visiting this balmy city on the Caribbean coast, it does open up a number of excellent alternatives to hotels and occasionally hostels.
An important thing to note right at the get-go is that when we initially wrote this article, there were a number of really excellent airbnbs for less than £50 a night - and often a fair bit less than this. Unfortunately for backpackers however, as Cartagena has recovered from the pandemic, its attractiveness as a touristic destination (both for backpackers and North American vacationers) has continued to increase, pushing the prices up significantly.
As a result, it is now almost impossible to find an apartment to rent in the Walled City or Getsemani at this price point, and those available really are not the best. In fact, if you’re travelling on a budget - and don’t need your own space for working remotely - we’d recommend opting instead for a hostel, hotel or guesthouse.
For those with a little more cash to splash however, there are an abundance of options - for some people, perhaps too many! And that’s where this article comes in.
We’ve gone through hundreds of the Airbnb listings in Cartagena, and considering reviews, facilities and aesthetic, have curated the below selection. You’ll find apartments across both the Walled City and Getsemani, in various price brackets and for both couples and larger groups, plus the odd one for single travellers.
These are our favourite, and some of the best Airbnbs in Cartagena.
