The Best Budget Riads in Marrakech

So, you're thinking about visiting Marrakech?

Firstly, excellent choice. Between the year-round sunshine, spectacular architecture and instagram-worthy sites, there are plenty of reasons to visit the pink city. But to truly make the most of your stay (and to tick off one of the must-do items), you simply have to stay in a riad. Sure, there a fancy hotels and resorts in the new town, but nothing quite beats the experience of waking up in one of these beautiful, traditional buildings.

With more than 500 riads in the medina however, the difficult part will be finding and choosing which one - especially if you simply can't afford a couple of hundred quid a night. That's why we've done the hard work for you and put together this list! Not a single Marrakech riad in this post costs more than €90 (with many going for far less), and they all have stunning design features, high-quality furnishings, and more than a few perfect spots to pose!

So, even if you're on a budget, you can still have a wonderful affordable riad in Marrakech!

Riad Porte Royal

Why we like it | We may be a bit biased (after all, this is where we stayed on our first visit) but Riad Porte Royale is a genuinely wonderful choice. It marries traditional features with modern design, has a great little plunge pool to cool off in and a large terrace to enjoy breakfast or catch a bit of sun. Additionally, the staff are wonderful.

Riad Shambala

Why we like it | Opened in 2012, this boutique hotel has been lovingly restored by the owner Carlos. Employing only traditional building methods, materials and furnishings, he has created an authentic Moroccan Riad loved by locals and guests alike. The large bedrooms are particularly lovely, as are the little hideaway corners dotted throughout.

Why we like it | Okay, so this definitely comes in at the top end of our cut-off for 'affordability', but it's just so damn lovely! Small and intimate with only four rooms based around a cosy courtyard decorated with berber rugs and solid furniture (unusual for Marrakech). Lovely rooms, various classes available on-site, as well as a hammam, and access to a neighbouring hotel's pool.
