To give you some ideas, here's an overview of the all the accommodation we stayed at on the route. And, remember, if you're driving the North Coast 500 in high season, then you definitely need to book ahead!
An Grianan, Inverness
This delightful B&B, located in a quiet residential street of Inverness, is a fantastic place to use as a base for exploring the city and the surrounding area.
Run by a friendly local couple who are only too happy to give your tips and suggestions for visiting the Highlands, the impeccably well-designed rooms are decadently comfortable and full of home comforts. If you're lucky, there may also be home-made cakes to return to after a day of sight-seeing!

Hartfield House Hostel, Applecross
In what was once a hunting lodge, Hartfield House now offers comfortable rooms to families, couple and groups of friends, with options for private and dormitory style facilities.
With a great guest kitchen, and set in beautiful grounds, this white house among the trees is a great place for people of all budgets.

Ruddyglow Park, Loch Assynt
With stunning views over Loch Assynt and the slopes of Quinag, Ruddyglow is in quite a remarkable setting. Owner Patricia, whose family have lived in the area for decades, is full of useful information on the area and the intimate B&B has touches of luxury, history and attention-to-detail throughout - you'll sleep like a baby here after a long day's driving!

Rhian Cottage B&B, Tongue
Bed and breakfasts on the North Coast 500 are certainly based in some wonderful settings! Down a small track outside the pretty village of Tongue, Rhian Cottage has excellent views of the surrounding hills, as well as boasting its own lovely grounds.
With friendly owners, excellent breakfast options and a cavalcade of friendly animals on site, it's a great option for some peace and quiet.
**Update May 2017 - unfortunately, Rhian Cottage has now closed as the owners have retired. However, you can find more accommodation options for Tongue and the surrounding area here.
Natural Retreats, John O'Groats
Built in mainland UK's most northerly settlement, Natural Retreats have luxury sussed. Choose to stay in a glass-walled lodge with all the amenities of a luxury apartment (and a welcome basket packed with delicious local goodies) or in one of the fabulous double rooms with views to die for.
With high-quality furnishings and interiors designed with space and comfort in mind, it will be difficult spending just one night here! They also have a wonderful little cafe and shop on site at the 'Storehouse'.

Dornoch Castle Hotel
Situated in perhaps the prettiest village on the NC500, this 15th century castle is also home to the most impressive collection of Scottish malts that we've ever seen - in fact, it's known as one of the world's foremost whisky hotels. It also has an incredible breakfast offering for guests!

It may only be 30 minutes away, but once you check-in, you'll feel a million miles from Inverness. This delightful castle, a former seat of the MacKenzie clan, is the very epitome of the 'Scottish Castle Experience'.
